When looking for a Personal Training course (Certificate III and IV in Fitness), do you shop on price or quality? Here are a few points to consider when making your decision.
- Is the provider a Nationally Registered Training Organisation?
If they are not, then don’t go near them. HPC is and always has been nationally recognised. (RTO)
- Does the provider have a fully equipped gym?
Last time we checked, we could only find a handful of providers on the entire east coast of Australia that have a gym at all, let alone a fully equipped gym. Personal Training is a very practical and hands on career, so you would think that the best place to learn is in a gym right? Well HPC’s training centre is over 1200 square metres that is used by the students, and only the students. Providers that don’t have a gym simply send you to a commercial gym to do your gym floor time there, but guess what…… You aren’t qualified yet, so you aren’t covered under their insurance, thus unable to actually train someone in the gym. All you can do is observe, or train yourself. The problem with this is what’s to say that the PT that you are observing has good form? Or are they a fully qualified instructor even (Certificate IV in training and Assessment). You can easily pick up this PT’s bad habits, and you definitely don’t want bad habits when becoming a PT. Unfortunately, this is something we see everyday industry.
- Is your course online or via correspondence?
Sure, online options are cheaper overall, but nobody tells you that online qualifications aren’t looked upon highly within the Fitness industry. How are you going to do your practical component of a course online? Online courses can often lack good support from the provider, and most students will struggle and lose motivation. We guarantee that you will learn twenty times as much in a class environment, and have a lot of fun while doing it. You need to ask yourself this; How are you going to learn boxing online? How are you going to learn group fitness online? How are you going to learn different training techniques online? How are you going to learn good form online?
-
Can you imagine getting on a flight to Sydney and the Captain says on the microphone “Welcome passengers, this is my first flight, as I attained my qualifications online!”
You would be straight off that plane! Because flying a plane is practical and it requires hands on training (in actually flying the plane) and it is the same in fitness. How are you going to work in a gym if you don’t learn in a gym. Thus the reason why HPC trained PT’s are regarded as the best in the business.
We actually retrain a lot of students who have already done an online course, but need to be retrained as they don’t have the knowledge, confidence or practical experience to work successfully in the industry. We find it ridiculous how many people come to HPC to be retrained, in fact last year alone we retrained 86 people who had previously tried a correspondence or on line course! So the costs may have been cheaper initially, but they have paid a lot more in the long run. You need to look at this as an investment in your future, not an expense. You will easily make that money back tenfold within your first year if you are equipped with the correct skills and necessary knowledge. So it makes sense to do your research about the courses and providers that you are interested in, and make sure you make an informed decision. This is an investment in your future career, so make sure you make the right choice and check out HPC.
